Ken and Laurie have two daughters and two guinea pigs at home. In October 2010 the Buchele family began a journey with a rescued pregnant beagle and her litter of 10 puppies! From that litter Ken is keeping one, Dolly, and their oldest daughter, Meagan, is keeping another, Elphie. They are beagle mix puppies (we have no idea who dad is!). The Bucheles are all looking forward to the many adventures having puppies will bring to the family!!!
Their other dogs over the years have included Brunswick, a Beagle/Terrier mix, Samantha, a Golden Retriever, Aik, Ken's first police K-9 German Shepherd Dog, and Lordy, Ken's second police K-9 German Shepherd Dog. (Lordy passed away in June 2010 at the very old age of almost 14 years old. Our hearts are broken, but we are grateful for the time and love we shared with Lordy. Thank you all for your kind words and support during this difficult time.)
Ken and Laurie are both members of the Extra Mile Ministries Canine Crisis Response Team as K9 Chaplains with their K9 Comfort Dogs, Daisy and Husker. They have volunteered on the campus of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois for the anniversary of the campus shootings and at the annual National Parents of Murdered Children (POMC) Conferences in Cincinnati, Ohio, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They served in Lake Township Ohio to support those affected by the June 2010 tornadoes. Ken and Husker attended the TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) Suicide Survivor Conference in October, 2011. Laurie and Ken are always on call for the team.
